a moment

Just had a "most embarrassing mom moment". I was at Wal-Mart with all the kids waiting on Jeff to meet me at the front of the store so we could check out. Here is the scene: Ty is sitting in the basket, I am holding Ali, and Ava is standing next to me. All of a sudden Ava grabbed my hand and starts to get really upset. I felt a splash on my foot (I had flip flops) and realize she is peeing on the floor. The sad thing is that she is really upset about peeing on herself but apparently she really had to go. I'm just standing there in shock not really sure what to do. There's no sense in scooping her up and whisking her to the bathroom, there was already a puddle on floor. But she was wearing a dress so it's not like her pants soaked any of it up, it was quite a mess. I just stood there for a moment not sure what my next move would be. I finally maneuver the basket over the puddle so others wouldn't slip (like I almost did) and tried to flag down a worker. I kept hoping Jeff would walk around the corner any minute to help, how long does it take to get a gallon of sweet tea? A really sweet women either saw my distress or the puddle on the floor. She called for a mop and got the janitor. I apologized profusely saying, "this has never happened before, I am so sorry!" She kindly said, "No problem we'll take care of it, you can go on" (at that point Jeff had finally reached us). The janitor lady wasn't so sweet. She didn't say anything but I did notice her give Ava the one over look as if to say, why isn't she in a pull-up/ diaper. Seriously how gross is it to clean up a puddle of pee especially when it's a strangers. It only made matters worse that Ava made pee footprints on the floor as we walked off and my bright idea to cover the puddle with the basket only made a 10 foot long streak of pee from the wheels as we strolled off. My Ava girl who has been potty trained for the last 6 months has never pulled a stunt like this. Of course we had just come from spending time in Target and both kids got their own icees so that accounts for the massive size of the puddle, but why she didn't tell me she had to go potty was a whole different issue.

So while this is a first for her to pee in the middle of a crowded wal-mart on a Saturday night, I will put a warning on her...don't tickle her unless she has just used the potty recently. Because in the tickling scenario, there have been numerous times that she has laughed so hard that she peed on me.

Well, the bright side is now the rest of us know not to put our shopping cart over our child's pee puddle. Thanks for testing the theory! At least you can laugh about it now.

Oh man that is too funny. If only it had been filmed for America's funniest... poor Ava though and poor mommy too... I still laugh about her peeing on you at Jen's bachelorette dinner.
