Ali May

In the shadow of her siblings I’ve really neglected to record on the blog Ali’s growing. Like many of you I want to use my blog as a scrapbook for recording the special days, day to days, and milestones of my children. On Thursday Ali will be 5 months old. I don’t know about you but that number is a little shocking to me. She is growing up before my eyes. Here are some on the mundane parts of her life…just for my record keeping.

She wakes up between 7 and 7:30 typically in a good mood wanting to be held. She doesn’t necessarily wake up wanting to eat and I typically can get the other 2 children breakfast on the table before she starts to cry for food. She east about 6 ounces every 4 hours. She has started on baby food and a serving for dinner at night. She really likes to eat, on numerous occasions she has grabbed a bowl of baby food out from my hands and licks the food out herself. While she enjoys her food she tends to get constipated and thus has called me to a new task of mothering I had never experienced before. She is the worst baby sleeper out of all my children, because she is a light sleeper. She takes 2 naps a day, one at 10 and usually another around 3 and then goes to bed between 9-10.

I’ve had more medical “issues” with her compared to my other babies. At 5 weeks, I followed her doctors orders and took her to the ER because she had a high fever. They did a specs work-up on her to make sure she didn’t have a bacterial infection which included drawing blood, getting a urine sample, and having a spinal tap. We were in the ER for 9 hours, by the time we left she was fever free and all her tests cam back normal. Around 3 months she was back at the doc with a high fever and this time she had a UTI. After antibiotics she was better. In her 4 month she developed thrush. While none of these are life threatening, I’ve never had to deal with this many issues in my babies.

Her development. She can push up on her hands while laying on her belly and can scoot around on the floor. She rolled over from her stomach to her back at 3 months but still can’t roll back to her stomach. She’s like a bug wiggling her arms waving when she lands on her back, lately Ava has been rolling her back to her stomach…which could account for the fact that Ali isn’t doing it yet. But she can sit up on her own. She is still a little wobbly and if I’m not going to stay close by, I typically put a boppy pillow around her (our floors are hard).

She has the best smile all gums and no teeth. While she drools like crazy and still spits up constantly she’s irresistible to hold…I always put a warning for people wanting to hold her. I think she is beautiful. She has the perfect hair loss, compared to my other 2. (Look below at the pictures of Ava at 4 months and her crazy hair. If you want to imagine Ty’s hair at 4 months just picture a man in his 60, completely bald on top and 1 single line of hair making a semi circle around his head.) She has been pulling at things and putting them in her mouth. My favorite part of bringing things to her mouth is that she can put the pasi in her own mouth if she wakes up in the middle of the night. She was the smallest of my babies at birth (7.4 average weight) she is still average…50% for height and weight. I think she weighs around 14 pounds now.

She recognizes her family and smiles the biggest for Ty whenever he talks to her. She is just starting to fuss if a stranger holds her. And while fuss if she sees me and wants to be held.

I think she is a pretty mellow baby and her temperament reminds me a lot of her siblings at this age. She likes to swing, play in her exersaucer, and lay on her tummy on the floor. She defiantly likes to be where to action is as long as it’s not too loud. My favorite thing about her is when she gets excited and smiles so big that her whole body shakes and her arms start flaying around. I also love it when she cuddles up on me and lays her head on my shoulder and when she plays with her toes.

Good job documenting all these mothering milestones. It's hard to believe how fast she's growing up.
