As I type this I laugh at myself and how much I have become “unscheduled.” As I type at 10:30 at night Ty is wide awake playing with legos on the couch next to me. We’re listening to blaring music and Jeff is asleep in the next room. Oh how the roles have reversed. I officially retired from work 3 weeks ago. I used to be so structured and organized….I had to be juggling work, grad school and my family. Ty was always bathed and in bed before 8:30 with clothes pressed and laid out for the next day. When Ty would go to bed I used the opportunity to relax for a bit before I started in my school work. Jeff would stroll in from studying shortly before I went to bed, and then I would wake up at 6am and do it all over again. Now that I’m not so pressed for time anymore, I think the only thing I have accomplished (aside from packing all of our stuff and moving) is putting on a few pounds. That’s right folks…I am relaxed! I prefer to call it relaxed verses lazy, it rolls off the tongue better. All the ladies at work thought it would only be a matter of time before I got back into the workforce saying that I would be bored at home. Little did they know I was made for this type of life. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE staying at home with Ty, there is truly nowhere else I’d rather be. Some days we veg out and never change out of our PJ and have all kinds of fun around the house. Other days we’ve gone to the zoo, aquarium, park, mall, putt-putt, Chucky-Cheese (his favorite), the library, ect. But my favorite part is just being with him. I’m so excited for my little baby to arrive in 9 month and it seems like it is forever away. Then again I can patiently wait that long because I know things will change with baby #2 and I cherish all the time Ty and I get to spend together. On that note I thought I would be fun to post some of our conversations we’ve had lately. I find myself laughing most of the day because of the goofy things he says and does.
I have several pet names for him but I guess the one I use the most is “baby” the other day he turns to me and says, “I’m your Ty baby and you’re my mommy.” Then he crawled up into my lap and gave me a kiss.
I’m only 5 weeks pregnant and when I get hungry I have to eat NOW! Jeff loves to make fun of me being preggy, especially as I down some food. Yesterday he so kindly called me a PIG and my sweet little boy in the backseat chimed in and added, “mommy you’re a COW!” Jeff laughed so hard that Ty kept saying it over and over again. I sense I won’t be getting much sympathy from these two.
Last week Ty was already in bed and I was walking across the room to tuck him in. I stepped on one of his toys and did a little pity cry. At that Ty marched to his door opens it up and starts yelling at Jeff. “DADDY ALAN NELSON!!! You better get in here! You made mommy cry and have to come talk to her!” Then he runs into the living room and lays into Jeff some more. At this point I am laughing so hard and Jeff walks into the room totally confused.
I call Jeff “babe” a lot and apparently Ty has picked up on it. Yesterday Ty said to Jeff, “hey babe can I have a drink of water?” We both laughed and Ty just grinned from ear to ear.
Ty has some phrases that he has picked up from me. He uses them appropriately but it just sounds funny hearing them come out of a 2 year olds mouth like: “fantastic” “What in the world” and “goodness gracious.”
His new phrase that he says typically while we are driving in the car is, “Talk to me mommy.” I’ll ask him what he wants to talk about and then our conversation begins.
Once while we were eating dinner with Jeff’s family, Jeff got into a discussion with some of his family and was started to get real heated and into to. Everyone else had dropped it but Jeff kept trying to prove his point. Then Ty says what we all were wanting to say, “Daddy stop talking. Be quiet!”
Monday he picked up one of the many yo-yos Jeff has given to him and turned to me and said, “mommy watch me do tricks, I’m doing the NED SHOW!” The boy is defiantly an attention getter. He would rather be in the spot light with all the attention then anywhere else.
Ty knows Jeff and mines full name and I recently taught him the first names all his grandparents. And now the goofy boy like to call everyone by their first name. It’s so funny to hear him call granni, Caralon. Of course he does it for the laughs and attentions.
Earlier this week Ty and I were in Big Lots picking out a toy for him. (we had a $5 dollar budget). He got caught up in the toys and didn’t follow me as I moved to the next aisle.
He had no concern that I was no longer near him and I thought I would hide and watch him to see what he would do. Would he freak out when he couldn’t find me or would be start looking for me? To my surprise he did neither of the two. He called out my name a few times, then proceeded to fill his arms with an array of toys. His arms were so full he had to bend his back to actually walk and carry them. He takes his toys and starts heading for the front of the store. At this point I get a little worried that he might try to walk out the front door, I hurry my steps and I follow him. It wasn’t the front door he was after(thank goodness I don’t have a thief on my hands) he headed to an empty check out line and proceed to put the items on the counter. He does know that we have to “pay money” for things before we can take them home. I laughed hard!! I really wanted to know what was going through his head that this point? Where would he find the money to pay…what was his next move…was he excited that I was missing so he could pick any and every toy he wanted? I intercepted the purchase and told him I didn’t have enough money for all the toys and that seemed to satisfy him.
I told Ty that I have a baby in my belly and here are some of the things he’s said about it…
“Mommy I took the baby out of your tummy and threw it out the window, it’s driving the car and it’s going to crash into the other cars” (what an imagination…but a little freaky at the same time)
“Mommy I have a baby sister in my tummy”
“Mommy can I get in your tummy with the baby?”
“Mommy I took the baby out of your belly and put another one in it, ok?”
A conversation we have more then anything else...which completely warms my heart goes something like this. “Guess what mommy? I don’t have to go to school anymore. I get to stay home with you!”
Don’t let me mislead you, everyday isn’t a walk in the park. You have to remember the boy is 2. We have had one day of severe spanking and “being in trouble” all day when his 2 year old attitude got the best of him. But he is very smart and has a great memory, so all I have to say is remember when…and he usually shapes up. I’ve learned how to be on his time and let him explore things before I hurry him along to my next agenda. He’s at a stage where he can understand some reasoning and knows what it means when I say, you have 5 more minutes, I don’t have enough money, we’ll do it later, ect. I have told you that I love this kid.
I’m laughing right now because as I type he is sitting next to me on the couch with his arm around my should like we are old chums singing some song he made up…I guess it’s time to put him to bed.

Ok, his comments and conversations sound so cute I wish we could all have a live feed attatched to him to hear them all. He is hilarious! At least Jeff knows now he can't make mommy cry withouth answering to Ty. =)
I love this post. I will have so much to look forward to I know. I have a 3yr old niece and she cracks me up a lot. The other day I went to my brothers to let some stress out threw tears to my sister-in-law and Autumn was so what I needed. I had a little tissue package with me and she was trying to get one out. She went over to her mom and said, "Mom I need the sissors to get this open," Amy said, "O yeah. Why do you need a tissue?" Autumn said, "because my allergies are bothering me." I laughed and thought it was so cut. She cheered me up. Ty sounds wonderful. I can't wait to go through all of that. The pictures are funny. You two look like you love to be with each other. Ty also sounds a lot like his Daddy. Tell Jeff I said hello.
Priceless. I look forward to when Anna can really start talking and having conversations...Ty sounds like a character... did you guys move yet?
Reading your stories cracks me up at how alike we are and how alike our boys are. I too call Levi baby and Cory babe. I still remember the time when I was checking email and Levi said, "What are you doing on the computer babe?" And just like Ty he will repeat over and over if he's getting laughs. We need to get our two clowns together. Did you book your flight yet?
