After counting down the days until he turned five Ty woke up on his birthday and said, "Well, today's my birthday." The tone in his voice was the hilarious thing. There was no excited it was just a matter of fact kind of statement. However he was hyper excited on cloud nine for the entire day.
For breakfast I let him pick anything he wanted to eat at the hotel. Of course he choose donuts, 3 of them (which I'm sure added to the hyper level). I got a weird look from the kitchen staff as I piled up donuts for Ty and gave Ava a healthy breakfast. I explained that today was Ty's birthday and for the rest of the day Ty informed EVERYONE that he was 5 today.
For him he had the perfect morning of eating donuts and watching cartoons.
Then Jeff picked us up between his shows and took us to a inflatable jump house. We were there for 5 hours (until Jeff could get us again). Ty and Ava both had a blast. The place was pretty empty so it was nice to not have to share or wait in line on your birthday. For his present we got him gymnastic lessons and Ava got him $20 to spend at Toys-R-Us. They were both in a separate cards. After he opened them he said, "Ok were are my presents? You know like the ones that are wrapped up and you get to open?" My heart sank a little thinking he was disappointed but then realized he was just confused. We offered to get him a present/toy instead of gymnastic lessons but he quickly refused. He said getting gynastic lessons was his favorite gift however, anyone that asks him what he got on his birthday he will say, "I got cards." I knew he would have a blast picking out his own present from Ava so that's why she gave him money, AND we spent 1.5 hours at Toys-R-Us that night as he went through every aisle narrowing down his choice. His final selection was a batmobile, that shoots out batman on a motorcycle with the push of a button AND he had to get a Joker so batman would have someone to fight. TOTALLY COOL! For dinner he picked eat at McDonald's (happy meals are a big deal for him). And finally we headed back to the hotel where Ava and I made him some cupcakes. We sang and he blew out the candles. He must have eaten his cupcake in less then 10 seconds because in no time he was done and playing with his new toy. He got to stay up until midnight and play..it was a special day for super special kid.
His birthday was actually "Ty extravaganza" day 2. The weekend before his birthday Jeff's parents came to visit and treated the gang (Ty, Ava, Me, Jeff, Aunt Val, Granni and Grandad) to Chucky Cheese, Ty extravaganza #1. Jeff and I clipped some coupons and we winded up with over 200 tokens. Between the 7 of us, it took a chunk of time to spend all the tokens. However we winded up with 1300 tickets. That is ALOT of tickets folks!!! Ty winded up winning a hand held telescope and some candy.
After Chucky Cheese we went to Cheddars and devoured a some desserts. It was a great night!
Ty extravaganza #3 will be Ty's birthday party. He is very specific about his party and what he wants to do. He wants to take his 3 best friends (Levi, Christopher and Chloe) to the movies to watch Monster vs. Aliens (it is a new movie that will not come out until the end of March). Specifically he wants to take them to a special movie theatre that serves all kinds of food...it's like a restaurant/theatre (he's never been but has heard Jeff and I talk about it). After the movie he wants to meet up with the little kids (Ava, Titus, Seth) at the park and play, open presents, and eat cake.

Ty and his batmobile he picked out with his birthday money from Ava

Ava was alot less hesitant to get down and dirty with Ty's cupcakes. Somehow I used a whole can of icing on 12 cupcakes...they were loaded down! Ava had handfuls on it in her hands and then got it ALL over herself.

Ava helping me make the cupcakes

I tried to make the frosting a grey batman color...?

He accidently blew out one candle while we were singing so we started over and relit them. After that he held his breath and covered his mouth so he wouldn't blow anymore out.

Ava and Ty going gown the massive slide. Ava is not as adventurous as Ty is or was at her age. But typically if you can get her to do it one time then she realizes that she loves it and will do it over and over again. That is the case with this big slide. The girl LOVES to slide but was hesitant about going up the huge latter and frankly I was hesitant about her going up it as well. Ty showed her how to climb it and stuck close by her the first several times (as I stood from below feeling my blood pressure rise...one of my big fears is my kids falling and it was a steep slope to climb). When they got to the top the first time Ty took her hand and held her while they slid down. I love it when he is sweet on her!

The ball pit was by far the favorite for both of them. I even got inside of it and played around with them.

Another picture of them going down the huge slide.

She might look a little fearful in this picture but I promise you see smiled the whole way down

I tried to do these next pictures in a series but it looked like I got them backward, this is supposed to be at the end.
It was super sweet and kinda sad at how badly Ty wanted Ava to play on the big blow up stuff with him (this is a obstacle course) I was too big to do it and Ava was too little. Ty tried so hard to help her and actually got her over the first part by himself by then I had to get her out because I was afraid they would get too far to the back and he wouldn't be able to help her and I wouldn't be able to get her.
Go down 3 pictures then read backyards.
3-He manages to get her to stay on the blocks then climbs over the top and pulls her up and over the top.
*To me this was just about the sweetest thing, especially since it took several tries. Step 2 took about 4 tries!

2-He manages to help her stay balanced while climbing to the top himself

1- He picks her up and put her on the second row of blocks

The HUGE slide...

Ty was full of sweetness on his birthday. We had a picnic lunch at the jumping place. Ty and I had both finished our lunch but Ava was eating a bit slow and refusing to finish her sandwich. I told both of them we couldn't jump more until Ava ate more food. SO Ty took over and got her to finish. I was seriously impressed. He would get her to open her mouth then cram a bite in. She thought it was funny. And ate it all up.

He is now 5!

I love the Ty extravaganza's! What a big boy...or is it little man now? How cute that he was so deliberate in spending his birthday money AND that he planned his own party! And I'm with Bekki - that last pic is great!
