Baton Rouge 2009

We have arrived at our annual trip to Baton Rouge. I'm not sure how it works out but every year for the past 3 years we go to Baton Rouge with Jeff. Typically it has been for 2 weeks at a time however this year we will only be here for 1 week. However for the 2nd year in a row we are in Baton Rouge on Ty's birthday (which is tomorrow...an emotional post will surely follow). I have no big plans for the week except to go to the zoo and take on the city by foot. There is alot of shopping centers within walking distance of the hotel and a Books-a-Million, which if I remember correctly has a train table that will provide unlimited free fun for my children this week. The kids did great on the drive over here. I think it's around 5-6 hours. We broke up the trip stopping at a Cracker Barrel because I was craving a vegetable plate and some biscuits and gravy (I was disappointed by both) but it was a good stop for the kids as they cruised the toys and little trinkets in the store. However once we arrived in Baton Rouge I realized that I forgot the diaper bag in the restaurant. Seriously folk in my defense I hate carrying a bag/purse and typically do not. Ava is very regular in her diaper duty so I typically leave the bag in the car. I hate having the EXTRA stuff to keep up with AND as you can see I do a poor job at keeping up with it. However on this particular day I took it out of the car so I could change her. The kicker is that the bag had my wallet and phone in it. So after eating and driving 2.5 hours I finally realized I didn't have it. Needless to say Jeff was not thrilled by my forgetfulness, but he is good and let me cry it out fully knowing he would be the one to drive 5 hours (after driving 6) to go retrieve it. He didn't get back to the hotel until close to midnight last night. So that was how our trip started but I have HIGH hopes that it will only be better from here.
I love "being on tour" with Jeff. I've looked forward to this week for a long time. It's mainly the hotel perks that get me excited. The room service, free breakfast (and some dinners), the unlimited hot water, cable, Internet, and the pool. Although this week it's a little too cold for the pool. This morning had already been AWESOME! Jeff didn't have any early morning shows so we all got to eat breakfast together (breakfast that I didn't have to prepare or pay for). After breakfast we came back to the room and I took a LONG shower bath (which is basically where I sit down in bathtub and turn the shower on). Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE shower baths? They are so relaxing, especially in a hotel when I'm not having to pay for the water and the hot water never ends (I realize this isn't very eco friendly of me, but I only do it a few times a year...my guilty pleasure). Typically Jeff buys me a gossip magazine and I relax in my shower bath while I read. However I'm trying to upgrade my reading so I worked on book I've really come to enjoy. It's called Loving Your Man Without Losing Your Mind. I got it at Lifeway about a month ago, I was looking for a book on marriage just wanting to be more intentional in my relationship with Jeff. It has alot of humor and realistic points and at the same time it is very convicting. I had never heard of the book before but the title stood out to me so I thought I would give it a try I highly recommend it. This morning I read 2 chapter one on Money Mayhem and the other was Catering to the Kids. I felt like these 2 chapters were written specifically for me as they really made me think and challenged me to fulfill my roles according to bibical standards.
And that has been my morning, breakfast, a bath, a book, and now the blog.

We are so much alike! I don't carry a diaper bag anymore either(if necessary I'll put wipes and a diaper in my purse, but usually I don't even do that). I LOVE going on business trips for the same reasons - the hotel vacation!

How sweet of Jeff for going back to get the back...and how great it was still there!

Poor thing! I'm sorry you forgot your diaper bag but glad you are about to have a wonderful week with the family. Enjoy your time and your many shower baths. :o)
