A penny saved is a penny earned!

A penny saved is a penny earned

Ohhh where to begin…. We had a whirlwind of a weekend. We drove to B-town Friday night and hitched a ride with my parents to Oklahoma to watch my aunt graduated from OU. We made it in time to make an appearance for a graduation party but then got a little side tracked on the way to the actual graduation….
Ty had brought a cup of ice into the car from the party and had dumped it into the cup holder in the car. I heard him ask Jeff for help in getting the ice out and the next thing I know he starts to choke. He clears his throats but then starting choking more. Jeff immediately pulls Ty out his car seat and pounds him on the back. The sweet part was that Ty was so scared he was crying in Jeff arms and saying, “I love you, daddy!”
Thinking it was ice we gave him some water to help melt it and get it down his throat.
We buckled him back up and continued driving to the graduation. With the intentions to talk to him about not swallowing a whole piece of ice I asked him what he swallowed at which point he replied, “I ate some money.” I was a little confused and asked, “what color was it?” To which he responded, “it was brown.” This is just my take on what happened but I think as Ty was eating the ice he grabed a penny that was at the bottom of the cup holder and swallowed it with the ice.
I thought it was no big deal and it would pass through his system in a couple of days.
Then my mom mentioned that the school nurse had said there was a certain coin that if a swallowed you were supposed to get medial attention. We called poison control and as it turns out it was a bigger deal then I thought. For all you moms out there, I was told that if a child in his age bracket swallows anything the size of a penny or bigger then you need to get an X-ray done. The reason is because the object could get stuck in the esophagus (even if they can eat, drink, and are breathing fine) and when they lay down to sleep it could turn or move and then they would stop breathing OR it could get stuck and then tissue would start to grow around it and it would have to be surgically removed. SOOO we had to go to the ER to get an X-ray done to make sure it had passed through his esophagus. We turned around and headed to the hospital and spent several hours in the ER and missed the WHOLE graduation.
And low and behold the money monster LOVED going to the ER. I think we was so exited because it was his turn to go to the doctor. He’s been going with me to Ava’s doctor and we’ve talked about the game plan when Ava is born and how Jeff and I will go to the hospital and he’ll go be with Jeff’s parents. Ty loved all the attention he was getting from the staff and asked why kids in other rooms were crying. And when the doctor came in Ty hammed it up and was all smiles acting like the perfect patient.
His excitement and enthusiasm for the whole experience only made him get more attention. At one point Jeff was sitting on the patient bed with Ty and Ty turned to him and said, “daddy it’s my turn to see the doctor you have to sit in the chair.” What a nut!
Anyways with all that said, the X-ray showed that the penny had passed his esophagus and we were in the clear. But now I am doing the most disgusting thing I’ve ever had to do as a parent. I can take throw-up, blood, snot, pee, and the works but my down fall is POOP. And folks I am having to sort through his poop in a penny quest. And so far we’ve had no such luckL

Ava update: I’m officially 33 weeks pregnant (less then 50 days!!!!). I went for an ultrasound today and found out that it is definitely a little girl. They estimate she is about 4.5 pounds and already has a head full of hair. Everything checked out and most importantly she looks healthyJ
